Rising Sun Pictures (RSP) is celebrating a major milestone this awards season, with Sinners earning a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 98th Academy Awards. The nomination recognises the exceptional work of the global VFX team, including RSP’s own VFX Supervisor, Guido Wolter, who represented the studio throughout the Oscars process and participated in the Visual Effects Bake Off in Los Angeles.

RSP contributed approximately 100 highly technical shots to Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, helping realise the film’s twinning performances of Michael B. Jordan’s characters, Smoke and Stack. Delivered across 65mm and IMAX formats, the work demanded absolute precision, with RSP partnering early with production to help determine the capture strategy and ensure flawless integration in the final shots.

The studio’s artists crafted each moment with meticulous attention to posture, rhythm and performance nuance, supported by the newly developed HALO multicamera rig, which captured over a million frames of reference for continuity, resulting in seamless visual effects that blended performance with technology to create two believable twins on screen.
RSP congratulates Guido and fellow nominees Michael Ralla, James Alexander, Espen Nordahl and Donnie Dean, along with the creative leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery and the Rising Sun team who contributed to the work, and the team eagerly awaits the Academy Awards ceremony in March.
